"In 1841 an Englishman by the name of Rowell built a steam saw and flour mill in the southwest part of town
which he operated until 1850, when he sold it to the Dunnick Brothers who afterwards
replaced it with a larger mill on the same site." (Abstracted from 125th Anniversary Book, pub. 1957 ) I assume
the brothers refers to Joshua, but might also refer to Elisha. Another source has the steam grist-mill erected in 1844 by Nightingale & Rowell. - 1881 - thriving business. (History of Sangamon Co. 1881, page 955) |

Two years after they married they moved to Illinois. Settling first in Springfield where they sept the remaining part of the winter then settled on a farm on Lick Creek, north of Chatham where they lived for four years. From there they moved to Mechanicsburg where they bought the old Mechanisburg Mill. | |||||||||
